Barbara Cress Grandy

Barbara Cress Grandy, age 95, passed away on May 10, 2023, unexpectedly of natural causes.

Barbara was born to William and Edith Cress on June 27, 1927, in Waukegan, Illinois.

Barbara dated Robert William Grandy all throughout high school. He was drafted for WWII immediately after high school. Barbara waited for him to return, and when he did, they were married in 1947.

Barbara was a proud alumni of Ripon College in Wisconsin, earning a Bachelor's degree in chemistry.

She firmly believed in and supported civic engagement and serving your community. She was a longtime member of the City of Chetek Planning Commission and also served on the Board of Directors for the Chetek Library. Barbara was also an avid golfer and had many local friends that she would golf with. She was active in several bridge groups and formed many close friendships from them. Most of all, Barbara loved her sons. She was very proud of them for serving in the military and what they had accomplished with their careers. Barbara also had a very special relationship with her daughter-in-law, Julie, they were truly best friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Grandy, parents, William and Edith Cress, and brother, William Cress Jr.

Barbara is survived by, her sons, Matthew and James Kevin (Julie) Grandy, and brother-in-law, Charles (Charlotte) Grandy, as well as many other loving family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 1-2:00 PM at the Burnham-Ours Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Chetek.

Barbara will be interred next to her loving husband at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at a private family gathering at a later date.

The Burnham-Ours Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
