DeWayne "Buster" Cummings, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022, at home in Chetek, Wisconsin with his family by his side.
Buster was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin on June 23, 1941, the son of William and Marion (Elwood) Cummings, joining three sisters, Jessie Mae, Elaine, and Doris Jean, and one brother, Bob; seven years later his younger brother Dale was born.
DeWayne married Constance L. Pertell on October 27, 1962, at Chetek Advent Church. They were married for 60 years. They were blessed with three daughters, Lynnette, Karn, and LuAnn.
Buster joined the Air Force in 1958 and served until 1962. He was an Airman 2nd Class AFSC Supply Specialist.
Buster worked for many years as a meat cutter for the Farmer Store in Chetek, Wisconsin. He decided to try something different during his working life and became an over-the-road truck driver working for several companies. Buster retired from Nordquist Trucking of Almena, Wisconsin in 2000 due to several health issues.
Some of his hobbies included being an announcer for the 4-H group at the local horse show arena in Chetek. He bowled on the Chetek League for a couple of years. In his "spare time" he worked on making wooden lawn ornaments for the yard. He'd go out golfing with his trucking friends, "shenanigans" he'd come home and tell his family. The stories he told were hilarious! The Coffee Klatch time with the "Good Old Boys" at Bob's Grill or Norm's in Chetek.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion & William Cummings, brother, Robert Cummings, and sisters, Jessie Mae, Elaine, and Doris Jean, and mother & father-in-law, Lucille & Richard Pertell.
Buster is survived by his wife, Constance Cummings, daughters, Lynnette Smith, Karn Jones, and LuAnn Cummings, grandchildren, Amanda (Garry) Anderson, Micah Bielski, Tiffany Ayeni, Turner Mahrle, Ashleigh (Chris) Cayll, Nicholas Mahrle, and Collin Toufar, great-grandchildren, Noah, Rylie, Trinity, Aly, and Dylon, and brother, Dale (Sally) Cummings.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Chetek Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the church. Buster will be buried with military honors at the Lakeview Cemetery. The family invites those attending to a luncheon and fellowship at the church following the service.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
