Donald Wilson Allen, age 93, of Chetek, WI was reunited with his beloved wife, Katherine, when he passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home, Chetek, WI. Donald was born December 7, 1918 in Sioux Creek Township, Barron County, WI the second son of Hosea and Libbie (Bowser) Allen.
Donald grew up on the family farm, and along with his brother James, farmed the family farm until 1955. At that time, Donald took over the farm and also held positions off the farm. He worked for Northern States Power as a “grunt” on the power line crew and he hauled “canned” milk for Arlie Olson and Clinton Robinson. Donald remained on the family farm until 1979, when he and Katherine moved to Chetek, WI.
Donald loved his dogs, gardening, farming and the outdoors. Because of his love for the outdoors, he was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing and hunting (deer, pheasant and partridge). Donald enjoyed sports, both as a fan and a participant. He was a fan of the Brewers, Twins and Packers. As a participant, he played baseball and was a pitcher for the Red Cedar Yankees, Chetek and Canton baseball teams. He was also a catcher for a team in Dallas, WI. Donald enjoyed pitching horseshoe and shooting pool. He was a member of the Chetek Pool Hall Association. He enjoyed reading westerns, especially those written by Louis L’Amour and he also enjoyed listening to old-time and classic country music.
Donald leaves to celebrate his memory, three daughters, Joyce (Roger) Lillevold of Chippewa Falls, WI, Lois Allen of Durango, CO, Jackie (Gary) Schabert of Oakdale, MN; four grandchildren, Tammie (Tom) Proue of Hudson, WI, Tom (Amy) Lillevold of Chippewa Falls, WI, Heather (Justin) Gartner of Woodbury, MN, Christopher Schabert of Oakdale, MN; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Proue of Dunseith, ND, Jacob and Adam Proue of Hudson, WI, Weston Schlewitz and Aden Lillevold of Chippewa Falls, WI; several nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (1995); parents, Hosea and Libbie Allen; brother, James Allen; sister, Dorothy Taft; daughter in infancy, Mary; Steve Vaudreuil (common-law spouse of daughter Lois).
A Celebration of Life will be held for Donald at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Advent Christian Church in Chetek, with Pastor Norm Phillips officiating. Donald’s family will be greeting visitors from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church Saturday, December 22. Donald will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek. Honorary Bearers will be Tammie Proue, Tom Lillevold, Heather Gartner, Christopher Schabert, Andrew Proue, Jacob Proue, Adam Proue, Weston Schlewitz and Aden Lillevold.
