Doris (Dori) G. Bayer, 83, of Chetek, WI died July 22, 2013 at Barron Mayo Clinic Health System Northland. She was born on December 19, 1929 in Elmhurst, IL. to Jack and Florence (Gunderson) Bayer.
Dori attended Thorton Township High School, in Harvey, IL. and Schurz High School in Chicago. She worked at National Foods in Chicago as a head cashier/clerk for 14 years. She then worked at Retail Food & Drug Clerk’s Union Local 1550 for 5 years as office manager. She then moved to Chetek on August 13, 1964 with her very very best friend Joan and her three daughters, Joanie, Dawn and Danielle. She worked at Neilson Flavor Crisp Chicken for 2 years as waitress/cook. She started working for Brewers Tax Service in 1965 as an accountant/tax preparer. She bought the tax service in 1968 and changed the name to Bayer’s Accounting Enterprises and ran it until she sold it to John & Diane Heppner in January 2, 1998. She continues to work there for more than five years doing taxes. She bought the Chetek Beauty Shoppe on September 14, 1986 from Dorothy Carpenter and has continued to run it till present. Upon selling the accounting business Doris was involved with her Godson, Jason Fostvedt, in a rental property business and did bookkeeping for Jason & Jim at Sweetwater Sanitation Service. She was always going to tax school to educate herself so she could be helpful in helping people with their taxes and accounting.
Dori was a member of St Boniface Catholic Church and was on the Finance Council there for the last 33 years. She was also a reader at St Boniface. She received the Distinguished Service Award from St. Boniface.
Dori treasured her time with her very best friend, Joan Fostvedt. She and Joan did everything together the past 52 years. Dori loved being with her family. Even though she never had children, she considered Joan’s children as her own and loved Joan dearly for sharing her kids with her. Dori loved life and everyone in it, she was always willing to help or lend a hand when needed. She looked forward to girls weekend every year and family trips and holidays. She loved to watch Nate and Meghan Fostvedt play school sports. And loved to see Ashlynne, Elsie and Parker and enjoyed watching them grow. She enjoyed playing cards with Bobby and Nicky when they visited. Dori enjoyed watching the Cubs and Packers, game show network, NCIS, John Wayne movies and reading mystery novels by Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson. She loved to play cards and games, she was very competitive, she always said, “There are no friends in cards”.
She was survived by her sister Dorothy Hovde, Green Bay WI. Brother David (Joan) Bayer, Dayton OH, her very best friend Joan (James) Fostvedt , her children Joan (Bill) Langman, Dawn (Steve) Langman, Danielle (Visuth) Sanmai, Jason (Stacie) Fostvedt, her godson. Their families Erin (Bob) Eckwright, Jen (Kevin) Reese, Michelle (Jamie) Slack, Pat (Nicole) Langman, Andy Langman, Josh Bailkey, Matt Langman, Nate Fostvedt, Meghan Fostvedt, Bobby Eckwright, Nicky Eckwright, Ashlynne Bailkey, Elsie Reese and Parker Slack. Many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Florence, her father Jack, her sisters Delores Cotugno, Diane Blackburn, Elaine Bayer and brother Donald Bayer and many other relatives.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. The family will be greeting visitors at the Church one hour prior to the Mass. She will be laid to rest at the St. Boniface Cemetery following Services.
