Doris Fay (Schreck) Orton

November 7, 1943 — October 10, 2022

Doris Fay Orton, 78, died on October 10th at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire, with her daughters and granddaughter by her side. She was born and raised in the Crowell, Nebraska area before moving to Wisconsin to start a family with her then-husband, Mike Orton. She spent her time between the two states before finally calling Chetek, Wisconsin, home in the 1980s. Her heart and roots never left Nebraska, however, and she visited as often as she could.

Doris spent her entire life taking care of others, from helping raise her grandchildren, cooking in child care facilities, and housekeeping at the local nursing home. She loved playing cards, watching reality TV, and spending afternoons with her great-grandchildren. She had a unique and loveable sense of humor that kept her family on their toes. Her friends and family were the most important thing to her and she spent her final moments having the perfect day.

Doris is preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Viola Schreck; brothers, Jack, Bob, and Ernest (Chris); and her sister Diane.

She is survived by her daughters: Kimberly (Warren Townsend) Pierce, and Linda (Gordon) Garske, Grandchildren: Ryan (Amber) Donald, Nathan (Tzeitel) Pierce, Breana (Neil) Stanley, and Mariah Garske. Her great-grandchildren: Chloe, Josie, Reilyn, Lennon, Gracie, Abram, and Maisyn; her sister: Claire Smidt; brothers: Leonard (Deb) Schreck, and Richard Schreck as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were her chosen family - including Jo Luedert and Annette Oleskow.

Doris has chosen to return home to Nebraska to be laid to rest next to her family. A summer celebration of life is expected to happen in summer 2023.

Many thanks to the nurses and doctors of Mayo Health System, Doris' neighbors at Evergreen Apartments, and her many helpers (Donna Mertens, etc.) for making sure Doris was always cared for and loved.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
