Edith Calkins Breed-Nix, 97, a longtime resident of Bear Lake Road, Chetek, WI passed away in the presence of loved ones on Monday, October, 29, 2012 at Hetzel’s Care Center in Bloomer, WI.
Edith was born February 2, 1915 in the Town of Rusk, Rusk Co., WI, the daughter of Merle and Wilma (Butcher) Calkins. Edith was a kind, loving, and giving woman who cared deeply for family, friends, and neighbors. She also had a great love for the beauty of God’s creations, especially flowers, her vegetable garden, and wild birds. Edith traveled extensively throughout her life, visiting family and friends from California, to North Carolina, to Florida, and many places in between.
Edith leaves to celebrate her memory, 1 son, Harvey Wayne (Janese) Breed of Cathedral City, CA; 3 grandchildren, Rhonda Breed (Tad Dexter) of New Bern, NC, Pat (Jesse) Voliva of Mesic, NC, Russell (Marci) Breed of Bolingbrook, IL; 4 great grandchildren, Tommy (Kala) Williams, Emily Breed, Tina Voliva, Jesse Voliva all of NC; and Hailey Breed of IL; 2 great great grandchildren, Eric Brantley and Aiden Williams of NC; sister, Maxine “Mickey” Kawell of Bloomer, WI; half-siblings: brother, Eddie Calkins, and sisters, Lori, Wendy, Becky; step-siblings, Gloria, Kay, Jeff, Sharon, Monty, Courtney; nephew, Rick; nieces, Little Mick, Sharon “Skip”, Carol Calkins; numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by, her parents Merle Calkins and Wilma Bowers; husband, Harvey M. Breed; son, Russell Breed; brothers, Joseph, Norman, and (Infant) Merle Edward Calkins; niece, Peggy, nephew, Joseph “Jody” Calkins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Burnham Ours Funeral Home in Chetek, WI, with Pastor Greg Harm officiating. Edith’s family will be greeting visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Chetek, WI.
