Edward “Big Ed” Turauski, 83 years of age of Chetek, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home. Edward was born on August 8, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the son of Stanley and Anna (Tupy) Turauski.
Edward served his country in the United States Navy as a Sailor on an aircraft carrier in the mid-1940s, after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy he returned home and became part-owner of a local bar in Chicago. After selling the bar, he was employed as an over-the-road truck driver; he also worked for a truck repair business before purchasing his own truck repair company. In 1956, Edward moved his family just outside of Weyerhaeuser, WI and opened Rusk Farm Tavern and Dance Hall. He and his
family then moved to Chetek in 1968, where he settled and owned and operated his business, Northwest Roofing, Co. The business is survived by his two sons.
Edward was a member of the Buck Lake Sportsmen's' Club, a former member of the Chetek Lions Club and was a big contributor to the Chetek community. He spent his
last years in Chetek, enjoying his time by his pool with his dogs.
Edward leaves to celebrate his memory, Ethel Turauski, Chetek, Loving Companion, Susan Dove, Chetek, children; Sharon (Ray) Maggi, Palatine, IL, Diane (Larry) Cipov, Bloomington, IL, Edward (Lori) Turauski, Chetek, Thomas (Linda) Turauski, Chetek, Gail (Tom) Nelson, Minneapolis, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service for “Big Ed” will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Chetek Lutheran Church. Pastor John Kurschner will officiate the service. Edward will be honored by the Chetek V.F.W. and the Chetek American Legion with military honors outside the church following the service. Casket Bearers will be Ryan Maggi, Chad Maggi, Josh Turauski, Travis Turauski, Ryan Motzer, Mike Parks and Honorary Casket Bearer will be Lars Wilberschied. He will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek.
The family will greet visitors at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek on Sunday from 4-8 PM and again at the church on Monday beginning at 10 A.M.
