Elmer Norwood Nelson, 88, of Chetek passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek with his loving family at his side. Elmer was born on May 14, 1924 in Dallas, Wisconsin the son of Norman and Nora (Bartlett) Nelson.
Elmer graduated from Chetek High School in 1945. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a corpsman. He was married to Janette Taylor on August 25, 1984 in Barron, Wisconsin. He was a lifelong dairy and turkey farmer in Barron County.
Elmer leaves to celebrate his memory; son, Bradley Nelson, Hillsdale, WI; daughter, Virginia Nelson, Barron, WI; Janette’s children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, Wayne (Marlene) Nelson, Menominee, MI; nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Irene (Flug), brother, Marvin Nelson, his son, Dan Nelson and daughter-in-law, Pat Nelson.
The funeral service for Elmer will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating. Elmer’s family will greet visitors on Wednesday, May 8 at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M. and then again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
The family would like to invite their guests to join them for lunch and fellowship in the church basement following the funeral service.
Elmer will be laid to rest at the New Scandinavia Cemetery in Maple Grove Township, Barron County, Wisconsin. The cemetery service is planned for 2:00 P.M. on Thursday.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
