Eula C. Tubbs, 95 passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Atrium Point Manor in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She was born February 1, 1920 in Island Lake, Wisconsin the daughter of Perry and Minnie (Dustin) Nelson.
Eula was the 7 th of 9 children, all born at home in the town of Big Bend. She attended North Lima elementary school in Rusk County. As a young woman, she worked in Ladysmith and Burlington as a maid. She married Leonard “Blackie” Tubbs in August 1946. Together she and Blackie ran a dairy farm until he died January of 1978. She stayed at home raising her son Eugene “Tucker”. She fed many farming crews and anyone else who stopped into her house. No one ever left hungry. Her grandchildren especially liked her beef-barley soup. They all spent a week or two with her in the summer, sometimes 2 or 3 together, often times all alone enjoying the special attention.
Eula enjoyed gardening and all kinds of needlework, especially knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting and even mending. She could make something with hardly nothing like nobody else.
In May of 2009 she moved to Steven Point to live with her son and daughter-in-law, returning to her farmhouse for several months in the summers of 2010 and 2011. In January of 2013 she moved to Point Manor Assisted Living where she lived until her passing.
She is survived by her son Eugene “Tucker” (Gail) Tubbs of Stevens Point, WI; Grandchildren, Patrick (Hannah) Tubbs of Madison, Kyle Tubbs of Neenah, WI, Elizabeth (Peyton) Colburn of Aurora, CO, Justin (Lindsey Jurgella) Tubbs of Stevens Point, WI; Great Grandchildren, Grace and Colin Tubbs, Jedidiah, Nathan and Baby Girl Colburn(expected in November). Also survived by her brother Nick (Linda) Nelson of Weyerhaeuser, WI, Sister Maxine Borkowski of Chetek, WI, nieces, and nephews and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 siblings; Ray, Daily, Austin “Sparky”, Eutha “Babe”, Irdale “Nub” and Argle “Twist”.
Funeral Services for Eula will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Chetek. Family and friends may visit from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Pastor David Willingham is officiating. Interment at Twin Lake Cemetery following the luncheon.
