Genevieve “Fritz” J. Lorentz, 87, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. She was born November 15, 1926 to James and Elsie (Hatler) Neller in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Fritz and Eugene moved from Peoria, Illinois to Chetek in 1967, bought a home on 10 Mile lake. Anytime of the day or evening, you would most likely find Fritz at home… fishing. Fritz was a member of Red Cedar Community Church in Rice Lake, enjoyed sewing quilts, lots of knitting, weaving, fishing and camping. She retired from Wright Products in Rice Lake and was most proud of the Associates degree in Supervisory management she achieved later in life. She was a very active Girl Scout leader for over 10 years, had many friends who were like family to her, that played cards together and fished. Fritz A.K.A. ”grandma fishing” purchased the grandchildren’s first rod and reel at the age of 5, and then at the age of 10, she upgraded them to the open face rod and reel.
Genevieve is survived by her children; Yvonne “Tyke” (Joseph) Tsiakals of Parker, Colorado, Deborah (Gordon) Beckstrom of Rice Lake, James (Linda) Lorentz of New Auburn, Mark (Lorri) Lorentz of Eau Claire and Margaret (Greg) Lobner of Onalaska, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene L. Lorentz, one sister Ruth Nagie and great-grandson Timothy S. Swearingen.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Red Cedar Community Church, Rice Lake. Continued fellowship and luncheon will be served at the Moose Lodge in Rice Lake immediately following the service. Fritz will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the spring of 2015 at Twin Lakes Cemetery in Sampson Township.
And did we mention “Fritz” likes fishing?
