Geraldine Marie Jerdet, age 88, of New Auburn, WI passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 1, 2011. She was born on July 31, 1923 in New Auburn to Sewell and Goldie (Knutson) Gubrud on the Gubrud farm.
She attended Carlson School and New Auburn High School, graduating in 1941. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran in New Auburn. On June 10, 1943 she was united in marriage to Harlan Jerdet in the same church. She joined him on the Jerdet farm to make their home, and over their 68 years together raised their 3 children.
She was a busy farm wife and mother, enjoying quiet country living with her flowers, bird watching, sewing, reading, doing puzzles, cooking, and baking. Gerry was a member of Chetek Lutheran Church. She was a past member of the Deborah Circle and Ladies Aid.
Gerry was once a cancer survivor and was thankful for her extended number of years after successful surgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
Her family was very dear to her. She leaves to celebrate her memory; her husband, Harlan; two sons, Dean of Chetek, Arlyn of New Auburn, and daughter, Kay (John) Berkley of Janesville; four grandchildren, Derek (Lorie) Berkley of Madison, Sheena (Wade) Hanson of Appleton, Krista Berkley of Janesville, and Kelli (Mike) Engen of Whitehall; two great-grandchildren, Bennet Engen and Ella Berkley; and one sister, Sylvia Bemlott of St. Paul, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alfred Gubrud; and infant son, Dale Harlan.
Gerry was a devoted wife and mother. She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her, for her generous spirit of giving and thoughtful acts of kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held at Chetek Lutheran Church on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek.
Gerry received much satisfaction in living her life believing in the Serenity Prayer.
