Helen I. (Bjerke) Rhone

Helen I. Rhone, 98, of Chetek, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.
Helen graduated from UW Eau Claire and taught in Eau Claire elementary schools for several years. In June of 1940 she married Don Rhone. In 1941 they built the Narrows Resort on Potato Lake which they owned and operated until 1969. They moved to Fish Lake and lived there until 2004 when they moved to Chetek and later to Knapp Haven.
In addition to being a gracious hostess to guests at the Narrows, Helen was a caring and nurturing mother and grandmother. Helen was known for baking Norwegian cookies and Christmas sweets. Whenever a neighbor or friend stopped by she would always offer a meal or dessert. She was a faithful member of the Gregarson Homemakers Club for over 50 years. She used her love of teaching as a 4H club leader for many years. Helen also did extensive genealogy and had interest in studying history, geography and science.
Helen and Don enjoyed travel to nearly all states with their camper. They also had several vacations in Hawaii and Mexico. Helen enjoyed fishing and made several trips to Canada.
Helen leaves to celebrate her memory: sons, Clare (Betty) Rhone, New Berlin, WI; David (Darlene) Rhone, Markesan, WI; Gary (Marcia) Rhone, Weyauwega, WI; daughters, Linda (Michael) Sweeney, Wisconsin Dells, WI; Carol (Joe) Rohrman, Chippewa Falls, WI; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on May 28, 2009, daughter, Dorothy Ranney and two brothers, Charles and Robert Bjerke.
The funeral service for Helen will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Burnham - Ours - Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Chetek. The family will be greeting visitors at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Helen will be laid to rest alongside her husband Donald at Island Lake Cemetery following the funeral.
