Janette Alice Nelson, 84 of Chetek passed away Tuesday September 8, 2015. She was born March 11, 1931 in Taylor County, WI to Frank and Hazel Taylor.
Janette grew up in Gilman, WI and married Louie Pecka. They had 5 children; James Pecka of Eau Claire, Sandy (Dave) Bonesteel of Birchwood, Tim Pecka of Barron, Gary Pecka of Chetek and Deb Oakley of Baraboo. Janette then moved to Chetek and married Donald Rhodes in 1963. Together they had 3 children, Noreen (Chuck) Koepp of Indiana, Rod (Lisa) Rhodes of Chetek and Donna (John) Carr of Janesville. She also has 7 step-children; Georgia (Pat) Quinn, Jalayne (Joe) Mergener, Jean (Jim) Olson all of Janesville. Terry (Lisa) Rhodes of California, Harv (Kathy) Rhodes of California, Kevin Rhodes of Chetek and the late Craig Rhodes.
In 1984, she married Elmer Nelson and included 3 more step-children, Bradley Nelson of Hillsdale, Virginia Nelson of Barron and the late Dan Nelson. Also survived by many grandchildren; Dustin, Brandon, Shiloh Rhodes, Angela, Chris, Ryan, Morgan Koepp, Justin, Jenna, Kayla Carr, Pat, Dan Quinn, Tabitha and Joey Mergener, Angie Rhodes, Michael, John, Chris, Mary, Betsy, Richard Picka, Joey, Susie, Michael Oakley, Karl, John, Jeremy, Brian, Heather, Julie, Dristia Nelson, Max and Austin Niemcewicz and many great grandchildren. Janette is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and 2 brothers, Warren and Berdett Taylor, 3 sisters, Zenita Kowolczyk, Cora Gozy and Ellen Ogarzlek, 2 step-sons, Craig Rhodes and Dan Nelson.
Janette was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her never ending laugh and huge heart touched so many lives.
Funeral Service for Janette will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 11, 2015 at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Janette will be laid to rest along side her husband Elmer in the New Scandinavia Cemetery in Maple Grove Township. Active pallbearers will be; Dustin and Brandon Rhodes, Chris and Ryan Koepp, Justin Carr, Pat and Dan Quinn and Joe Mergener.
