Janice Dawn (Anderson) Dewey

December 18, 1948 — September 28, 2013

Janice Dawn Dewey, age 64, passed away peacefully at home in Chetek surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 28, 2013.  Jan was born December 18, 1948, in Laurens, Iowa, to Eldon and Esther Anderson.  She was a 1967 graduate of Chetek High School.  On June 5, 1971 she married her high school sweetheart, David Dewey at Chetek Lutheran Church.  They have made their home in Chetek since 1973.

After graduation she started working at First Wisconsin Bank (US Bank) in Rice Lake.  In 1974 she began a 37 year career as the middle school secretary with the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser School District.  During that time she was a colleague, mother, nurse, advisor and friend who touched the lives of many who walked through her office door.

Jan was a member of Chetek Lutheran Church, and an accomplished golfer in the Sioux Creek women’s golf league.  Whether hosting a party at Dewey’s Point or tailgating in Madison, Jan and Dave loved cheering on the Badgers and hosting their annual 4th of July celebration on the lake.  Jan cherished her many women friends; her “Friends Forever” high-school girl friends, the Sew Happy quilting group, and the neighborhood coffee ladies.  We were all blessed with her beautiful smile, gracious manner and zest for life.

Survivors include her husband David, son Tim (Jennifer) and daughter Abby of Stillwater, MN, daughter Meredith (John) Hillmer, children MaKenna, Joshua, Anna and Nora, of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers Wayne (Doris) Anderson, Colorado Springs, CO; Tom (Elaine) Anderson, Laurens, IA; Bruce (Amy) Anderson, Green Bay, WI; and sister Diana (Mitch) Thompson, Chetek, WI; nieces and nephews.  Janice is preceded in death by her parents.

During her eleven-year journey with breast cancer, Jan inspired us with her courage, optimism, quiet strength and grace.  The family wishes to thank Dr. Burns and his oncology staff at Mayo Clinic and the hospice team at Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate support.  We are also deeply grateful to the dear family and friends who made it possible for Jan to be at home with her loving family these last few weeks.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Chetek Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be at the funeral home 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday at church.  Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Please view and sign the guest book online at www.burnhamours.com.

Memorials can be made to the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Scholarship Foundation or a charity of your choice.
