Joann Lusebe (Ausland) Sykes

Joann Lusebe Sykes, age 98, passed away on November 3, 2023, at the Cambridge Senior Living facility in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Joann was born to John and Inez (Tuller) Ausland on July 9,1925, in Chetek, Wisconsin.

Joann graduated from Chetek High School and was a lifelong resident of Chetek before moving into the Cambridge Senior Living facility. She was a cook at the Chetek public schools and loved her job and serving the students. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and sewing and making clothes in her spare time. Joann loved to dance, especially to polka music. She loved being a part of the community at the Chetek United Methodist church and participating in their activities. Joann loved to bake and cook big meals, big family get-togethers were her specialty and she loved having the company and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Ausland, husband, George Sykes, daughter, Elizabeth, sister, Jean, brother, David, grandson, Jason, and son-in-law, Dennis.

Joann leaves to celebrate her memory, children, Jana (John) Bailey, Becky Solomonson, Wade (Kimberly) Sykes, and Roger (Anita) Sykes, grandchildren, Steve, Jeff, Karen, Teresa, Matt, Paul, Tom, Marcia, Josh, Cindi, Robbie, Joann, Doug, and Jarett, many great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Chetek United Methodist Church on Monday, November 13, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service. The family invites those attending to a luncheon in the church fellowship hall following the service. Joann will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek, Wisconsin.
