John Charles Fostvedt, age 97, passed away on September 18, 2024, at the Meadowbrook at Chetek Nursing Home.
He was born to Julius and Elise Fostvedt on November 26, 1926, in Chetek, Wisconsin.
John graduated from rural public grade school in 1940 and completed his education at Chetek High School in 1944. That year, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II, in the Philippines and Guam. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his military service, John pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning degrees in economics and history, and later attended the University of Minnesota earning a degree in agriculture. In 1967, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a high school agriculture teacher, inspiring countless students until his retirement five years later due to a permanent illness. John enjoyed history, researching family genealogy, and collecting historical artifacts, and generously contributed to the Chetek Area Historical Society and Chetek Area Museum.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Elise Fostvedt, brothers, Gerald, Kenneth, and Sidney, and sister, Elizabeth.
John is survived by many nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek, Wisconsin.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
