John Arthur Schmidt

John Arthur Schmidt, 88, of Chetek, WI (formerly of Hastings, MN and Westbrook, MN) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health Care System North in Barron, Wisconsin.
John was born on December 27, 1923 in Murray Co, MN to Jacob and Katherina (Rupp) Schmidt. John accepted the Lord as his Savior in March of 1949.
John was married to Verna La Vera Reemtsma on May 17, 1949 in Westbrook, MN. They were blessed with four children, Joan Marie, Douglas John, Dale Eugene and Bruce Allen.
John and Verna lived in Westbrook, MN from 1949 to 1960. In April of 1960 they moved to Hastings, MN where they lived till 1994. They lived in Farmington, MN for 8 years before moving to Chetek in 2002. For the last 3 years he has lived at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.
John enjoyed farming in Westbrook and Hastings, MN. He retired from working for Bahls Motor and Implement in January of 1986. John faithfully attended church and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Chetek.
John leaves to celebrate his memory: wife, Verna, four children, Joan (Jack) Moes, Doug (Carolyn) Schmidt, Dale (Debbie) Schmidt and Bruce (Tammy) Schmidt, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Katherina Schmidt, two brothers and three sisters.
A Memorial Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Chetek on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with John’s sons, Pastor Bruce Schmidt and Pastor Doug Schmidt officiating. The visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
Following the service the Schmidt family would like to invite their guests to join them for fellowship and lunch at the church.
John will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek. Casket Bearers will be his grandsons: Andrew Schmidt, Nathan Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Peter Schmidt, John Moes and Patrick Moes.
The Burnham-Ours Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
