John Anthony Stencil, 72 of Island Lake, Wisconsin went to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 22, 2011 at his home under the care of the NW Hospice. He was born June 15, 1939 in Marathon County, Wisconsin to Joseph and Anna (Semski) Stencil and was raised on their farm. He married Cecelia (Loiselle) Dahl on May 17, 1983. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Parish in Chetek.
John worked in the auto industry for 32 years for American Motors and Chrysler. He was Financial Secretary of UAW Local 72 for 21 years. In 1991, he retired to Island Lake. He became a town supervisor in the Town of Big Bend and then town chairman. He was a member of the Rusk County Board of Supervisors for 5 years. His main hobby was fishing but he also loved working on cars, outboard motors, welding and traveling, meeting new and old people and friends.
John leaves to celebrate his memory, wife; Cecelia, children; Frank (Jamie) Dahl, Kelly (Brian) Wallander, Darryl (Amanda) Dahl, Richard Stencil, Michael (Janye) Stencil, Joseph (Dawn) Stencil, Jack (Gloria) Stencil, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Sean Maciejewski, Kayla Dahl, Travis & Alyssa Wallander, Marshall & Madelin Dahl, Jeremy (Ciera) Stencil, Charlotte (Greg) Fox, Rachel, Paul & Christi Stencil, Desiree Ogletree, Alexia & Logan Fox, sister; Joan (Arnold) King, brother; Joe (Jean) Stencil, numerous relatives and friends, and his furry friend, Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Jeffrey, sister; Marie Reitz, many other relatives and his puppies; Buster and Laddie.
His advice: “You can go on without me – one monkey won’t stop no show”.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek. The family will greet visitors from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rusk County Animal Shelter are preferred.
