John “Jack” Ray Nyberg, age 87 of Chetek passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born February 11, 1931 in Duluth, Minnesota, son of Edith (Bloomquist) and Ray Nyberg.
After graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He was a paratrooper, 82nd Airborne Division. Jack married at the age of 29 on April 23, 1960 in Iowa to Patricia Ann O’Brien, together they raised four children. Jack and Pat moved to Whittier, California in 1968. Jack worked in La Mirada, California for a Paneling Company until his retirement. In 2005, they moved to Chetek, Wisconsin where they bought a house on Lake Chetek. He enjoyed woodworking, keeping busy in the garage, cars, playing pool and telling jokes. Jack loved his time at the VFW where he made a lot of friends.
Jack is survived by his wife for nearly 58 years; Patricia, children; Clifford Ray, Janine Kay (Tom) Ellison, Connie Jean, Kurt Paul, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Kay Anderson and Ida Mae Serbin, grandsons, John Thomas Ellison and Matthew Thomas Nyberg.
Funeral Services for Jack will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place Monday, 12:00 P.M. at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin where Military Honors will be accorded.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
