Joseph Frank Dahlman, 91, of Chetek, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, Wisconsin. Joseph was born on July 26, 1920 in Homewood, Illinois the son of Herman and Minna (Lousy) Dahlman.
Joseph was raised on the Southside of Chicago in Homewood. He attended Salem Lutheran School in Homewood and Bloom High School in Chicago Heights. After his schooling he worked to support his family during the depression. He was married to Hilda Wille on July 7, 1941. At the age of 33 he purchased a grocery store in Princeton, IL, which he operated until the late 1960’s when he moved to Chetek where he owned and operated the Coast to Coast store with his son Robert until he retired in 1980. He remained living and enjoying his retirement in the Chetek area until the time of his death.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother and two grandsons in infancy. He leaves to celebrate his memory: wife, Hilda, Chetek; children: Carol (John) Polek, Atlanta, GA; Bob (Diana) Dahlman, Chetek; Barbara (Tom) Wierzbicki, Eau Claire; grandchildren: Jeanne Lord, Gregory Polek, Stephen Polek, Susan Mommsen, Mary Zuelke, Sharon Adelman, Brian Wierzbicki, Jill Wierzbicki; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren and other loving family and friends.
The funeral service for Joseph will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Chetek on Monday, November 7
th
at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Tylan Dalrymple will officiate the service.
The family will greet visitors from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek and then again on Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to invite their guests to join them for lunch and fellowship following the funeral service. Joseph will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
