Joyce C. Grever, 80 of Chetek passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Dallas Care & Rehab Facility. She was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin January 20, 1936 the daughter of Helen (Webster) and Merlyn Loomer.
Joyce graduated from Lake Geneva High School in 1954 and pursued a career in education. She taught in a one-room school house at Wortman School in rural Burlington, WI for two years. August 9, 1957 she married Edward Grever at Como Community Church in Como, Wisconsin. Joyce finished her 4-year degree by attending UW-Whitewater, and then taught second and third grade for the next 28 years at Brookwood Elementary School in Genoa City. She also spent 35 years involved in Girl Scouts of America, including directing Oakwood Knoll Camp in East Troy for 15 years. After retiring from teaching, she moved to Chetek, where she continued to volunteer her time in schools. People have characterized her as “someone who will lend a hand at any time for any task, usually without being asked.”
Joyce is survived by her husband of 58 years; Edward, children; Carlyn (Bryan) Mink of Phoenix, AZ, Debra Grever of Chetek, WI, Douglas Grever of Phoenix, AZ, Steven (Cindy) Grever of San Antonio, TX, Sheri (Phil) Grever-Skomski of Lake Geneva, WI, grandchildren; Joshua Grever, Kayla Skomski, Rebecca Skomski, Danielle Grever, Devin Grever, Siblings; Merle (Eileen) Loomer, Janet Rissky and Jackie (Lawrence) Grever. Also survived by other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Prairie Lake Covenant Church with Pastor Noel Cisneros officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service. "A "Celebration of Life" for Joyce will also be held in Walworth County on June 18, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 P.M. at Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay." In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Joyce.
