Kay Darlene (Akins) Wheeler, passed away with her family by her side on April 20, 2023, at her home in New Auburn, Wisconsin.
Kay was born to Daniel and Ruby Akins on October 4, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois.
She married her devoted husband, Walter Wheeler, on February 1, 1954, in Peoria, Illinois.
Kay enjoyed crocheting, making beautiful cross-stitches, and painting. She was an expert at playing cards, especially Russian Rummy. Kay also liked to read or listen to audiobooks, as well as watch the abundance of birds and wildlife that came to her backyard. However, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved dogs. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Ruby Akins.
Kay is survived by, her husband, Walter Wheeler, daughters, Michelle (Blane) Hyllested and Kelly Wheeler, grandchildren, Justin Workman, Nicole Otto, and Heather Hyllested, and brother, Jim (Jill) Akins, as well as many loving family, friends, and neighbors.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Burnham-Ours Kolstad Funeral Home in Chetek, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service. She will be interred at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery following the service.
The Burnham-Ours Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
