Lawrence Oliver Hakes, 86 passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Chetek.  He was born December 1, 1929 in Chippewa Falls the son of Irvine and Elsie (Black) Hakes.

Lawrence graduated from Chippewa Falls high school, worked for O.K. Tire Store as a tire serviceman.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  March 5, 1955 he married Ruby A. Taylor in the Town of Anson, Wisconsin.  In 1975, Ruby and Lawrence moved to Barron where he began to work at Rice Lake Retreading (now Pomps), where he retired in 1997.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby; children; Larry (Elizabeth) Hakes of Petersburg, West Virginia, Timothy Hakes of Chetek and Susan Hakes of Chetek, grandchildren; Jessie (Brian) McMasters of Caledonia, Illinois, Megan (Michael) Skubovius of Washington, Pennsylvania, 2 great grandchildren; Connor and Finley McMaster.  Also survived by siblings; Joseph (Arlene) Hakes, Marjorie Hakes both of Chippewa Falls, WI and nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the funeral home.  Family and friends may gather from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Burial will take place at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI Monday, August 1 at 10:00 A.M.   In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of your choice or the family.  Please view and sign the online guestbook at www.burnhamours.com.
