Loretta I. Moy, 85, of Colfax and formerly of Chetek, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Home. Loretta was born on March 5, 1929 to Raymond and Ida Belle (Dorchester) Simonson. Her parents were farmers. She spent her early years in Durand and the family later moved to the Jump River area. Loretta attended high school in Glen Flora, Wisconsin.
On July 27, 1946, Loretta married Merle Arthur Moy Sr. Merle was a career man in the United States Military and he and Loretta traveled and lived in many states throughout his career. When Merle Sr. retired from the military in 1959 they moved back to Eau Claire. Loretta then worked at Austin’s White House between 1961 – 1968 as a waitress.
Merle and Loretta’s dream was to live on a lake, so in 1966 they found a home in Chetek and lived there throughout their retirement. Loretta’s favorite past-times were macramé, flower arranging, quilting, ceramics, playing pool and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Loretta leaves to celebrate her memory: children; Ronald (Cherry) Moy, Brighton, CO; Christine (Richard) Anderson, Eau Claire, WI; Cheryl (Gale) Solum, Chetek, WI; Merle Jr. “Butch” (Michelle) Moy, New Auburn, WI; 12 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, her sister, Jean Scott and many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle Arthur Moy Sr., son Andy Moy, 2 grandchildren, Donavan and Jason, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Chetek Lutheran Church. Pastor Guy Redfield will officiate.
The family will greet visitors at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Chetek on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. and again at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek following the service. The family would like to invite their guests to join them at the church following the cemetery service for lunch and fellowship.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
