Melvin Thomas Vana

Melvin T. Vana, 86 of Rusk township passed away Tuesday October 11, 2016 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.  He was born October 21, 1929 at home in Rusk County the son of Thomas and Mary (Castora) Vana.

Melvin married Lenora Purintun April 12, 1949 in Chetek, Wisconsin.  Mel and Lenora owned and operated a dairy farm in Rusk County.  Mel also was self employed as a roofer for many years after.  He was the Chairman for the township of Rusk for nearly 30 years, member of Badger Wheels Studebaker club, Western Fraternal Life Association and in his spare time, enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 67 years Lenora, children Thomas Vana, Cynthia (Greg) Saylor of Barron, Mary (Jim) Sekola, Coletta (Ken) Peterson, Donald (Betty) Vana, Brentt Vana all of Chetek.  Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, many great great grandchildren and his loyal four legged buddie, Brownie.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Emily Janota and brother Clarence Vana.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, October 14, 11:00 A.M. St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Bala officiating.  A visitation for family and friends at Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to Mass on Friday at church.  Interment will take place at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery following Mass.  Family and friends are invited for a luncheon and continued fellowship in the church hall after the burial.
