Mickey Ray Stanford, 81, of Chetek, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. Mickey was born on November 5, 1930 in Poskin, Wisconsin the son of Dan and Ruth (Cole) Stanford.
Mickey worked for Sundstrand Corp. in Rockford, IL in March 1950, then joined the U.S. Air Force in November 1950 and served until 1954. He then was once again employed by Sundstrand until 1969. During this time he married Grace Johnson and was married until her passing in 2009. In 1969 they moved back to Chetek. He worked with Jack Butterfield doing carpentry/remodeling for a few years. John Menard hired Mickey to run Mendards Distribution Center in Eau Claire. He worked there until he retired. In 1989 Mickey and Grace bought 40 acres in the town of Sumner and built his hunting shack. It was always his dream to provide a place where family and friends could come and enjoy his back 40. For the past 23 years Mickey’s dream has become a reality and will live on for generations to come.
Mickey leaves to celebrate his memory: son, Craig (Joan) Stanford, Chetek; grandchildren, Alicia (Cody) Rihn, Josh Stanford, Eric (Erica) Stanford, Brandi Stanford; great grandchildren, Alexa, Alyssa, Isaiah, Cierra, Elliot, Shawn and Gracie; brothers, Kenneth (Belle) Stanford, Glenn Stanford and Calvin (Bobbi) Stanford; sisters, Ruth Ann (Dennis) St. Aubin and Norma (Norm) Lund, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Ruth Stanford, his wife, Grace Stanford, five brothers and three sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. The family will be greeting visitors at the funeral home from 12 Noon until the time of service.
