Neva "Torchy" L. (Savage) Schaller

Neva (Torchy) Schaller, 90, of Chetek, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek with her loving family at her side.

Torchy was born on April 16, 1924 at Ireton, Iowa to Vern and Nora Savage.  She grew up in “East” Barronett and attended Cumberland High School.

Torchy began her loved career as a waitress in Cumberland at the J.C. Café and continued waitressing until the age of 79 throughout the area.  Torchy also worked at the local Co-op grocery store for many years where she ran the clothing department.  She did volunteer work at the Barron Hospital and Rose Lawn Elementary School and was active in the Chetek American Legion Auxiliary.

On November 15, 1947, Torchy married the love of her life Bill Schaller.  They lived in Cumberland, California, Barronett and Birchwood and then settling in Chetek in 1953 where they remained to raise their daughters Susan and Cindy.  Torchy lived her life to the fullest with her love of family and friends to the core.

Torchy leaves to celebrate her memory: daughters, Susan (Dale) Paulson and Cindy Schaller, two grandchildren, Eric Paulson and Sarah (Ben) Knepper, one great grandson, Eddie Knepper, sister, Lois (Joseph) Moore and many loving nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents and her brother Delbert Savage.

The funeral service for Torchy will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Chetek Lutheran Church.  Torchy’s family will greet visitors at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Chetek on Thursday, March 26 from 4 – 7 P.M. with an American Legion Auxiliary Service at 6:45 P.M. and visitation will also be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.  Following the service the family invites their guests to join them for lunch and fellowship in the church basement.

Torchy will be laid to rest alongside her husband Bill at St. Boniface Cemetery in Chetek in the spring.  Pallbearers; Jim Ricci, Jim Wanner, Dale Damon, Jim Helman, Bill Schaller.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
