Norma Ione (Muermann) Nielsen

November 13, 1924 — January 7, 2018

Norma Ione (Muermann) Nielsen was reunited with the love of her life, Waldemar (Walt) Nielsen on January 7, 2018.  Norma was born November 13, 1924 in Chetek, WI.  Her homecoming was celebrated by those who left before her, including her late parents, Carl and Pearl (White) Muermann, husband Walt, daughter Barbara Kowalowski, grandson Joshua Nielsen, brother Frederick (Fred) Muermann and sister Loretta (Muermann) Wold.

Raised in Chetek, Norma fell in love at the first sight with Walt Nielsen whom she met in Cloquet, MN.  The two were married 65 wonderful years at the time of his passing in August 2010.  While raising their children, Norma and Walt lived in Eau Claire, WI, Babbitt, MN, Silver Bay, MN and then Montana before returning to Chetek.  Norma was a member of Chetek Lutheran Church.

Norma loved well and lived her life to the fullest.  If she wasn’t baking homemade bread, cookies and cakes or preparing amazing home cooked meals, you would find her outdoors where she enjoyed showing off her green thumb.  Norma's favorite activity was fishing in the backyard of her home in Victor, MT (on the famous Bitterroot River) where she amazed everyone with her innate ability to reel in the largest trout of the day - each and every time!

Her life is celebrated by her survivors who include son Kim (Judy) Nielsen, daughter Joy Nielsen, remaining siblings, Burnett Muermann, Bill Muermann,  Betty (Don) Newman, Donna Rhine and Gary (Charlotte) Muermann, as well as 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Everyone is invited to honor Norma's life with a memorial at 11:00am Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating.   Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service, there will also be a luncheon and time for fellowship in the church hall following the service.  She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Norma by making a donation to the Chetek Food Shelf, 121 Second Street, Chetek WI 54728, in her memory.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
