Otis Lee Sigler

d. January 24, 2014

Otis L. Sigler, 98, of Rice Lake and formerly of Cameron passed away on Friday, January 24, 2013 at Our House Memory Care in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.  Otis was born on January 6, 1916 in Barron, Wisconsin the son of William and Myrtle (Massie) Sigler.

Otis graduated from Barron High School in 1933.  From 1936 until 1939, he lived with relatives in the Chehalis, Washington area while working in the logging industry.  Upon returning to Wisconsin, he began farming on the home farm in the Town of Sioux Creek.  On December 18, 1946, he married Hazel Clarissa Lowe in Cameron.  Otis and Hazel continued to farm, milking a herd of Registered Holsteins with the Shady-Corner prefix.  During those years he was also a Pride Seed salesman and a member of Barron County Farm Bureau.

Due to health reasons, Otis sold his herd in 1970 and the farm in 1971, and the family moved to Cameron.  He spent nine years working for Koser Iron Works in Barron, retiring in 1980.

Otis loved baseball and softball, playing on teams in his youth and enjoying watching the games throughout his life.  As a young man, he enjoyed snow skiing and even a little ski-jumping.  Over the years, he pitched horseshoes on leagues and in tournaments, never missed an opportunity to spend a few hours fishing, and looked forward to deer season each year.  After he retired, he was able to do some traveling, including visits to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Panama Canal.  Before moving to Our House Memory Care in 2007, he was a faithful volunteer at Pioneer Village Museum.  He loved helping with projects, talking with the visitors, and was especially fond of being there on the spring days when area elementary students came on their fieldtrips.

Otis was a lifelong member of the Advent Christian Church in Chetek, where he held various positions on the church board over the years.

Otis leaves to celebrate his memory: daughter, Elaine Molls, Cumberland; son-in-law, Roman Molls Jr., Almena; grandson, Michael Lee Molls, Cumberland; nieces, Carol Gehler, Barb Huset, Susan Reeves, nephews, Doug Haugestuen and Bob Lowe.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle (Massie) Sigler, his wife, Hazel, brother, Neal Sigler, nephew, Don Lowe and a brother in infancy, Bennie and a sister in infancy Eva.
