Otylia "Tillie" F. (Novak) Zwadlo

Otylia “Tillie” Filomena Zwadlo, 85, of Chetek, WI passed away with loving family by her side on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek. She was born May 21, 1927 in Strickland, Rusk County, WI the daughter of Casimir W. and Helen (Borowski) Novak.
Otylia graduated from Weyerhaeuser High School in 1944, and then attended Minneapolis Business College. She worked for one year in New York, before returning to Wisconsin. Otylia married Chester Stanley Zwadlo on September 16, 1947 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Strickland, WI and were married 49 years. She then moved to their dairy farm on County Line Road in Rusk County.
Otylia spent time on the farm, and raised nine children. She also worked as a cook at the Chetek Cafe and then the Knapp Haven Nursing Home for 31 years, retiring in 2007. Otylia was involved in the community, helping with cub scouts and as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed quilting and cross stitching, and loved gaming at the casino. She also enjoyed watching game shows and puzzle-making. Her greatest love was visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had room in her heart for all of them.
Otylia leaves to celebrate her memory, her children, Gregory (Carol) Zwadlo of River Falls, WI, James (Sue) Zwadlo of Callicoon, NY, William (Christine) Zwadlo of Chetek, WI, Jeffrey ( Carolyn) Zwadlo of Greer, SC, Helene (Richard) Calkins of Chetek, WI, Deborah (Dan) Friis of Menomonie, WI, Suzanne (Thomas) Gustum of Sand Creek, WI, Michael (Janet) Zwadlo of Tomah, WI, Andrea (Ron) Spencer of Union Springs, NY; 31 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Hildegarde Turner of Medina, NY; sister in law, Donna Novak of Lake Wales, FL; brother in law, Myron (Priscilla) Zwadlo of Snohomish, WA; many nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Otylia was preceded in death by her husband, Chester (1996); parents, Casimir and Helen Novak; brothers, Hank, Al, and Edwin Novak.
Otylia’s family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Lakeview Hospice, as well as the Knapp Haven staff and family for the wonderful care that was provided.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek, with Father Jim Bartelme and Deacon Mike Cullen officiating. Otylia’s family will greet visitors on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 4-7 P.M. at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home, Chetek, and again one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Otylia will be laid to rest next to her husband, Chester in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Luke Zwadlo, Ian Zwadlo, Joshua Zwadlo, Samuel Gustum; sons in law, Dan Friis, Richard Calkins. Honorary Bearer will be grandson, Melvin Gustum.
