Richard A. "Jake" Jacobsen, 72 of Chetek, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Jake was born January 11, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Roy and Rose (Bolger) Jacobsen.

Jake grew up in Chicago, IL and joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school in 1958 as a Submarine Sailor. While in the Navy, he was a volunteer fireman for the James Island Fire Department in Charleston, South Carolina. He ended his 26 year Navy career as a Command Master Chief, and retired to Chetek, WI in 1984. Jake was a past member of the Chetek Snow Flyers, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a past Senior Vice Commander, past Junior Vice Commander, Color Guard, Annual Chicken Fry Committee Member, and held other various positions with the Chetek VFW.

Jake leaves to celebrate his memory, his children, Yvonne (Jim) Czarniak of Schaumburg, IL, and Patrick (Karla) Jacobsen of Milton, WI; grandchildren, Connor and Joshua Czarniak of Schaumburg, IL, Joseph and Jessie Jacobsen of Milton, WI; brother, Roy (Henrietta) Jacobsen of Appleton, WI; cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving family and many friends.

A Memorial Service for Jake will be held at the Burnham Ours Funeral Home in Chetek on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 12 Noon, with Pastor Ralph Marquardt officiating. Jake's family will be greeting visitors at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.  The Chetek VFW Honors Team, along with the American Legion, will be providing military honors following the service.  Jake will be laid to rest at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chetek VFW Post 10331, PO Box 465, Chetek, WI 54728.

The Burnham-Ours Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
