Ruth Moe

Ruth Moe of Chetek died on her 102nd birthday, on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, WI.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 2004, her parents and all of her siblings, one son-in-law, Al Arneson and one grandson, Jeff Arneson.

She was born on June 11, 1910 to Walter and Agnes (Fixen) Thompson in Landa, North Dakota.  She was the oldest of 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy.  She attended Minot State Teacher’s College in Minot, ND and taught in North Dakota rural schools for several years.  She met Orville when they both attended a Luther League convention at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN.  They were married on June 21, 1938, in Landa, ND.

She leaves to celebrate her memory, seven daughters and one son:  Carol Arneson of Minden, NV; Margaret "Maggie" (Sandy) Erikson of Mound, MN; Lorraine (Mason) Davis of Eugene, OR; Rachel (Dennis) Williams of Fennimore, WI; Linda (Steve) Eliason of Minnetonka, MN; Vivian Moe of Marquette, MI; Howard (Lori) Moe of Chetek;  and Esther (Beverly Howard) Moe of Portland, OR; sixteen grandchildren:  Jennifer Arneson of Minden, NV; Melissa (Ed Canalin) Erikson of Alameda, CA; Kari (Kurt) Wehrmann of Excelsior, MN; Burton (Teresa) Erikson of Redondo Beach, CA; Joshua Davis of Bend, OR; Zachary Davis of Eugene, OR; Grant (Shelly) Williams of Boscobel, WI; Clark (Annie) Williams of Asbury, IA; Lisa (Jason) Kenney of Fennimore, WI; Matthew (Meghan) Eliason of Minneapolis, MN; Michael (Leanne) Eliason of Minneapolis, MN; Erik (Erica Schemper) Vorhes of Chicago, IL; Kirstin (Ryan) Sellers of University Place, WA; Amy (Brian) Adams of Chetek; Kristin (Aaron) Crackel of Owosso, MI; and Caryn Moe of Chippewa Falls, WI; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Ruth will be on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Chetek Lutheran Church.  The family will greet visitors on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.  Pastor Guy Redfield will officiate the service.

Ruth will be laid to rest alongside her husband Orville at the Lake View Cemetery in Chetek following the funeral service.  The family would like to invite their guests back to the church for lunch and fellowship following the cemetery service.

The Burnham-Ours Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
