Ruth L. Squires

Ruth Loraine (Gillett) Squires was born to Fayett and Elsie (Rinehart) Gillett on July 20, 1926 in Bear Lake (Rusk County), WI. Ruth passed away on March 27, 2012.

Ruth attended Bear Lake School graduating in 8 th grade. She later earned her GED so she could attend and graduate from WITC with a nursing assistant diploma. She worked as a nursing assistant at Knapp Haven and for Barron County as a home health aide for many years. She married Bernard Olson on November 4, 1942 at Dovre Lutheran Church. To this union five children wer e born. They divorced in 1988. Ruth married Dee Squires in December of 1990.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to play catch or to pitch a ball. She sat through any and all weather to watch her kids and grandkids play sports. Ruth sacrificed for her children her entire life. She worked on the farm as well as a nursing assistant. She ensured that her kids had a strong faith and a means to a higher education. Ruth was an avid outdoorswoman. She hunted and fished and even ran a few road races. As a devoted Wisconsin Sportsfan, the Packers and Brewers were always on the radio or TV. Ruth was a member of Dovre Lutheran Church and later on Chetek Lutheran Church.

Ruth leaves to celebrate her memory: four sons; Bernard (Beth) Olson, Jeffery (Gail) Olson, Anthony (Julie) Olson, Bart (Shelly) Olson, and son-in-law Ora Hetchler, grandchildren; Shawn Olson, Jill Rodgers, Andrea Olson, Mike Hetchler, Tim Hetchler, Adam Olson, Brett Olson, Mitch Olson and Ali Olson; great-grandchildren; Shay Olson and Hailey Reed, sisters; Laura “Doc” and Elsie, many cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Ruth “Pooch” was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Squires; daughter, Nan Hetchler; sisters, Marion “Josie”, Ethel “Billie”, Cecelia “Ceil”, Neva “Trix”, Delores “Dit”, Iva “Steve”; brothers, Fay “Sonny” and Kenny (at birth).

The funeral service for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Chetek Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating. The family will greet visitors on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Burnham-Ours Funeral home in Chetek from 5-8 P.M. and again at the church one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to invite their guests to join them for fellowship and lunch following the service.

Ruth will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery.  Casket bearers will be Shawn Olson, Adam Olson, Brett Olson, Mitch Olson, Jill Rodgers, Andrea Olson, Ali Olson, Tim Hetchler, Mike Hetchler, Bill Breed and Roman Brady.

The Burnham Ours Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
