Darold "Sonny" J. Harris, 86 of Chetek unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was born February 12, 1932 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, the son of Mary (Flor) Harris.
Sonny started his journey here in the city of Chetek. He graduated from Chetek High School. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1951-1954 and served as a Paratrooper in the 187th Airborne. Sonny continued to play a large part in the Howard-Campbell-Ganske American Legion Post #179, where he eventually became the Chaplain, continuing to serve many of his countrymen. He worked at General Motors Fisher Body in Willow Springs, Illinois, retiring after 43 years of dedicated service. He and his wife Jeanie retired in Chetek where they spent the remainder of their lives together in the comfortable home they built together. In his spare time, Sonny loved hunting, fishing, wood working and keeping people around the area in order.
Sonny is survived by his children, Glenn (Julie) Harris, Denise (Larry) Skelly, Eugene (Karen) Magiera, Paula Magiera, Vicky (Tom) Bonelli, Johanna Magiera and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary, wife Jeanette and daughter Roxann.
Military Honors will be accorded at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Lake View Cemetery where Sonny will be laid to reset beside his wife, Jeanette.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Chetek Area Veterans Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 23, Chetek, WI 54728, 715-642-3626, In Sonny's honor.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
