Virginia Mary (Fitzgerald) Matus

Virginia M. Matus, 92, of Ladysmith, died Nov. 29, 2011, at the Ladysmith Nursing Home.

Virginia was born on Feb. 13, 1919, in Cortland, NY, to Arthur & Dorothy Fitzgerald.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII from Oct. 1942 - Aug. 1944

She married Edward Matus of Weyerhaeuser on July 3, 1944 at Holyoke, MA, and they moved to Rusk County after their discharge from the service.

Virginia is survived by her sons Gary (Donna) of Chetek; Dennis of Eau Claire; daughters Sally (Jerry) Harris of Galconda, IL, Diane (Mel) Matus of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Russell Pragit Jr., Sherry (David) Vaughn of Fairfield, IL, Amanda (Adam) Matus-Creapo of Denver, CO; and two great-grandsons and one step-great-grandson of Fairfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dean, grandson Andrew Matus, and longtime companion Calvin Silvernail.

The Burnham-Ours Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
