Wilfred "Billy" W. Mickelson, 72 of Chetek passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI.  He was born July 21, 1943 in Rice Lake to Walfred and Florence (Bryngelson) Mickelson.

Billy served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Hawaii from 1964-1968.  He was an Ensign (2 nd Class) and worked as a mechanic on submarines. He attended classes at UW Barron County where he earned his GED.  On August 7, 1965 Billy married Cheryl Sue Krans at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake.  After being honorably discharged, he worked at Jerome Foods, logging in the Blue Hills, farming, carpentry and retired from Kadinger’s Auto/Metal Salvage where he worked many years scrapping iron with his brother Butch.  Wilfred and Cheryl lived west of Chetek all their married life where together they raised three sons.  Wilfred enjoyed flowers, gardening with Cheryl, hunting, collecting coins and stamps, collecting Avon, bird watching, computer gaming and researching the genealogy of his family and community.

Wilfred is survived by his three sons; William “B.J.” (Rob Holleman) Mickelson of Columbia, South Carolina, Steven (Kathy Rodgers) Mickelson of Rockford, Illinois, David (Sylvana) Mickelson of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, one grandson; Dakkyn Mickelson of Chippewa Falls, 4 step-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother; Richard Mickelson, sisters; Marion (Larry) Schmitz, Karen (John) Rusccito, Jean (Ted) Workman, Julie (Terry) Floan, mother-in-law; Elmyra Krans, sisters-in-law; Julie Mickelson, Janis (Marvin) Schoonover, Wendy (Jim) Stavran and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Cheryl (12/15/2007), brother Steven “Butch” Mickelson, sisters Marlene Ringer and Verna Mickelson, brothers-in-law Jack Krans and Bob Watts, sister-in-law Debbie Mickelson.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 11, 2016 at Prairie Lake Covenant Church with Pastor Noel Cisneros officiating.  Visitation at Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home Thursday March 10,  4:00 – 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.  Interment will follow at Otterholt Cemetery with Military Honors present.
